The word “attitude” is defined as “a feeling, mood, frame of mind, etc.”  A proper attitude is essential to the success of any endeavor.  In 2 Corinthians 10:5, the Apostle Paul addressed the Christian’s attitude when writing, “bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”.  In other words, they were to have the “mind of Christ”, as is seen in what Paul wrote to the Philippians in Philippians 2:5. In this article we will notice some Christian attitudes.

WHAT IS THE CHRISTIAN ATTITUDE TOWARD GOD?

One of reverence and obedience – Ecclesiastes 12:13; Ephesians 5:21.

Lack of reverence leads away from God – Rom. 3:12-18.

WHAT IS THE CHRISTIAN ATTITUDE TOWARD ONES SELF?

Not arrogance and pride; expecting others to serve us – Romans 15:3.

An exercise of self-control – Proverbs 16:32; 25:28; 1 Corinthians 9:27.

An old Chinese proverb stated, “Who governs himself is fit to govern the world.” As Christians we should seek to live our lives in such a way that we are “fit to govern the world”.

WHAT IS THE CHRISTIAN ATTITUDE TOWARD OTHERS?

Humility toward all men – Philippians 2:3, 4.

Help toward the needy – Galatians 6:9, 10; Matthew 25:34-40.

Forgiveness toward enemies – Matthew 6:12, 14; Romans 12:17-21.

Interest toward the unsaved – Matthew 4:19; 28:18-20.

WHAT IS THE CHRISTIAN ATTITUDE TOWARD THE CHURCH?

Put it first in life and plans – Matthew 6:33.

Note Paul’s attitude toward lost – 1 Corinthians 9:19-22.

Serve to the best and limit of our ability – Mark. 14:3-9.

Our attitude toward the brethren?

We are “members one of another” – Romans 12:4, 5.

We love and seek the restoration of the wayward – Galatians 6:1.

WHAT IS THE CHRISTIAN ATTITUDE TOWARD SIN?

Not one of indifference.

We must not “wink” at it.

Barna Research revealed the following: “Christians” get divorced at the same rate as those who do not identify  themselves as such – 33% as compared to 34%. People live together before marriage at about the same rate – “Christians” – 30 %; Americans – 33%. 23 % of “Christians” buy a lottery ticket weekly, while 27% of non-Christians do so. 36 % of “Christians” read their horoscope daily while the same percent of non-Christians do so.

Recognize the tragedy of it – Romans 6:23.

Abhor it – Romans 12:9; Proverbs 8:13.

“Abstain from all appearance of evil” – 1 Thessalonians 5:22.

WHAT IS THE CHRISTIAN ATTITUDE TOWARD THE BIBLE?

Accept it as God’s Word – 1 Thessalonians 2:13.

See it as more precious than gold, sweeter than honey – Psalms 19:9, 10.

Acknowledge that it is inspired and complete – 2 Timothy 3:16, 17; 2 Peter 1:3.

Preach it boldly – Ephesians 6:19.

WHAT IS THE CHRISTIAN ATTITUDE TOWARD RELIGIOUS ERROR?

Not one of indifference and compromise – 2 John 9-11.

But that expressed by David – Psalms119:104, 128.

Attitudes are important, as can be seen by the words in Proverbs 23:7, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.”
